First Carp Fishing Bonanza at Oakview Lake

Holiday at Oakview Lake produces the lake's first carp fishing bonanza.

The first holiday to result in a carp fishing bonanza happened at Oakview Lake this month. Four anglers go home with new PBs. In fact PBs were broken on no fewer than eleven occasions during the week.

Danny started the PBs rolling in with his first carp and that set the scene for a busy first night. By morning, four anglers had smashed their PBs and they would go on to break them again and again during a hectic week of carp fishing during their second trip to France.

A legend is born

Les has broken the lake record for a common carp with a fish weighing in at 32lb. He called it The Legend after pointing out that it has a very odd shape for a common. It was also yet another new PB.

Baz also banked some beauties during this fishing holiday, topped by a fantastic mirror carp weighing 34lb 3oz. Like his pals, Baz spent the week smashing his own carp fishing records.

Like the others Si was determined that he wasn't going to draw a blank on his trip to France and he got off the mark straight away with a carp weighing 26lb 7oz. That was a PB too!

Despite their great catch, the boys know there are lots more carp in the lake and they are already planning their return trip to have another go at breaking some records. Tony certainly had unfinished business, being the only angler not to leave the lake with a new PB. Mind you, Tony will need to catch a carp well over 40lb to beat his own PB so his goal remains a little more difficult to achieve.

The total weight of carp caught exceeded 700lb, which gave an average catch size of 26lb. That is good news because it shows that the Oakview carp have settled in to their new environment and are in excellent condition.

Well done to all five anglers for filling the week with lots of excitement and carp fishing action. There was a slight concern that five carp anglers would find it a bit tight fishing Oakview Lake but as it turned out, there was no shortage of decent catches to go round.
