Magic Carp Fishing Moment Filmed at Oakview Lake

What it feels like to finally catch your first 40lb carp after getting close so many times. A magic moment caught in this short film.

Do you remember catching your first ever 40lb carp, or do you have that pleasure still to come? The short film captures the moments leading up to the realisation of a carp fishing dream.

Pete Wright's Magic Moment

Pete and Debbie Wright have been on carp fishing holidays in France for years and they have visited quite a few lakes in their day, including several holidays at Oakview Lake. Despite notching up a host of 30s over the years, a 40 pounder continued to elude them. This trip, their first 4 carp were all good 30s, including a 39lb 6oz common, which took Pete's PB a few ounces closer to his goal. Then the moment finally came.

Filming the Magic Moment was Pure Luck

Debbie had just given us their camera chips so we could update our Angling France Facebook friends with a mid week catch report. Minutes later, Debbie's on the phone saying that Pete is into a fish and they may need the camera chips back. Shirley had a sudden witchy moment and made me grab the movie camera on the way down to the lake.

The Magic Moment Filmed

By the time we got down to the lake, Pete had netted the carp and I got the camera rolling. In the film, Pete's face is a picture when he lifts the weigh sling and realises that this fish could be the one. It's even more of a picture when the weight shows 41lb 4oz. This freeze frame from the movie captures the exact moment when Pete gets the weight confirmed. That's one magic moment for Pete.

The final scene of the film is a beaming Pete, showing off the brand new Oakview Lake polo shirts, which he and Debbie kindly agreed to model with a few nice fish, providing the carp played ball of course. They both did us proud, posing their new shirts with a bunch of really nice 30s and a 40 pounder. Happy carp anglers and magic moments - that's what it's all about!
