Catching Carp on a Blue Moon

Big carp fishing session coincides with a rare blue moon

A rare blue moon occurred at the end of July 2015 and it brought with it a big carp fishing session for carp angler Peter Lang at Oakview Lake.

It Happens Once in a Blue Moon

If you are curious to know whether the recent blue moon event had any influence on carp fishing in France, then Peter Lang is the person to look up. His blue moon sessions at Oakview Lake last week produced 3 new personal bests and an average catch of 35lb. Pete's blue moon fish included 2 carp over 40lb and a bunch of carp in the high 30lb range.

Average Carp Size of 35lb

2 carp over 40lb and 6 carp in the mid to high 30lb range made up 8 of Pete's total of 10 fish. The other two carp weighed 20lb and 28lb 4oz. Pete arrived in France wanting to beat his UK personal best of 24lb. Imagine how he felt when his first French carp smashed this by 14lb and that was just a taste of what was to come.

Blue Moon Day

31st July 2015 was the main day in the blue moon event and it brought a further 5 carp, including a common, 3 more 30lb mirrors and the fish of the week at 43lb 12oz. That was the third time Pete had smashed his PB during the week.

Tranquility, Terror and Blue Moon

These are the 4 words Pete uses in the video to describe his blue moon carp fishing session at Oakview Lake. The phrase 'blue moon' speaks for itself and Pete's wife Sharon blended into the tranquil setting with her sketch pad. Pete's use of the word terror reflects how he must have felt when the biggest carp he'd ever seen started to line up to take his baits.

Tactics

This was Pete's first time fishing in France but it won't be his last. Pete used a combination of his own experience and studying all of the videos in the Tactics section of this website. It just goes to show that you need more than luck and a blue moon to catch big carp in France.

Before you reach for your fishing almanac, the next blue moon isn't due until 2018. Pete has already decided he can't wait that long for his next carp fishing session at Oakview Lake.
