Ken Dallow is a carp fishing legend. He started fishing in 1946 and became one of the carp fishing pioneers of the early seventies when he caught his first 20lb carp. Seven decades later Ken is catching 40lb carp in France.

Before Modern Carp Fishing

Ken caught his first 20lb carp when breaking the 20lb barrier was still a dream for most carp anglers and long before carp fishing holidays in France became popular. Back then Oakview Lake existed only in the mind of a local farmer who had a dream to transform a useless swampy field into something more useful like a lake.

Ken's Latest Carping Achievement

Ken put his years of experience into play by becoming the first ever carp angler to land two 40lb carp in a row at Oakview Lake. So even after all these years Ken is still capable of registering a first!

Ken was fishing the home swim on the right side, using a bait boat to place his baits in open water between the island and the right bank. In his prime Ken was never a fan of bait boats, so he insists on fishing only in places that he used to be able to reach by casting.

Ron Key was fishing the left home swim and it was a rare treat to have the combined experience of these two legends on the bank at the same time. Being a casting specialist and somewhat younger than Ken, Ron found some good spots over a hundred yards away around the edges of the deep bowl. Most of Ron’s fish came from that area, including a stunning common carp weighing 31lb 12oz.

Today, Ken Dallow is an honorary Vice President of the British Carp Study Group and still goes carp fishing in France with his old pal Ron Key, who is the current BCSG President. Seeing these two legends of the carp world enjoying a relaxing fishing holiday in France was a rare treat.
