51lb 10oz Carp Smashes Oakview Lake Record
Mild weather brings the big carp on the feed. Includes the history of Oakview Lake's first 50lb carp.
Another record fishing session sees the first 50lb carp landed at Oakview Lake. It's a new lake record, a new PB for angler Pete Wright and the lake's first carp to top 50lb.
History of Oakview Lake's First 50lb Carp
The carp is one of the lake's oldest residents. It was stocked in December 2008 as part of a bulk stocking of low to mid 20s. Its first recorded capture was in June 2009, when young Mikkel Madsen banked it at 26lb 7oz, which was a new PB for Mikkel at the time.
By August 2014, the carp started to show signs of its future potential when it was banked at 37lb 8oz by Oakview regular Minne de Swart.
One year later in August 2015 its weight was recorded by angler Anthony Burgess at 44lb 8oz.
In November 2016, Simon Watson smashed his PB with it at 47lb 14oz. It was the biggest carp caught at Oakview Lake that year.
Pete and Debbie Wright's Carp Fishing Session
Fishing a short pre-season session with one rod each, Pete and Debbie caught carp on ASAP and Crunchy Coconut boilies over beds of pellet. The fish came from the far margins, using a bait boat from the home swims. In total, they banked 1 x 50, 2 x 40s, 2 x 30s and 1 x 20.
A massive thank you to Pete and Debbie from us at Oakview Lake. After spending many hours helping us to make our venue ship-shape for the new season (not to mention looking after Eric the famous Oakview cat during our holiday), they rewarded themselves with a rather memorable carp fishing session. Couldn't have happened to nicer people!
